Wednesday, July 25 Race to be Resailed

To the Fleet: As a result of a request for redress filed Wednesday night, Principal Race Officer Perry Lewis reviewed the results, procedures, and scoring from the race, consulted with the Ida Lewis protest committee, and determined that the race will be re-sailed. The Fleet Captain and Executive Committee have agreed with this conclusion. We will try for two races next Wednesday. Our thanks to Perry for making this quick determination, and to Perry and the rest of our race committee volunteers for continuing to offer their time to run our races. Andy Burton Fleet Captain PS Don’t forget to register for the Nationals by July 31 to save the $75 late entry fee.

What gives?

Those of us not gathered around the ILYC water cooler don't nec. have a clue as to what happened or why we are re-sailing the race?

Any insight?

Well, to start with, 22 of the 31 boats that started were apparently over early and never returned. But many who were called as such were quite certain that they weren't over, and prepared to try to prove it in the room. Some who were over but restarted were scored as having started clean; remember the Z flag was up, so they should have had 20% added to their scores. And there were a couple other problems with the scoring, too.
Basically, it was decided that rather than try to sort it out it would be fairer to resail the race.
